...And in the process be seduced by the recordings of trillions upons dozens (or so it feels) of other unknown, talented musicians who are just trying to get heard. If only Ashlee Simpson would grant a few of us each some small fraction from her ill-gotten wealth, with which we could take little bits of time off from our day jobs in order to fully invest our time and energies into creating excellent music. But I digress, right? Rock on.

Oh is this cool or what. As though it were some kind of automatic response mechanism, I ordered your CD within about thirty seconds of reading this post. And many, many others will do the same.
Amazing. Have fun with this.
Looking good, Rachel, looking good.
I remember hearing "The Answer Lady" at Michael Page's house one evening during the summer of 2002. You had just written it that week, I think. Part of the reason I remember it so well is that I went home and wrote the following. Since if I ever have my poems published this will appear with the dedication seen below the title, I thought you should have it in advance. (Oh, and although it may go without saying, I am enjoying your CD very much. I plan to write a more detailed review than that later to post on such places as my blog.)
"Encore"
For Rachel Zylstra
Tonight my soul took leave of me
to follow yours—or
the part of yours that had
left its own shell behind
to explore related worlds.
It wandered around chords,
climbed on your voice,
danced with every passing note, and
got lost somewhere between
melody and harmony,
sinking to earth again when
both paused.
I applauded because it's expected
and communal, and because
it would have been
hard to explain that what I
wanted to do was sing from the silence
you had made for us.
First of all, Suzanne, that was beautiful.
Second, Rach, I promise I will email you soon, but I just wanted to say that your CD is OUT OF STOCK at CDBaby! Isn't that cool? They sold out of your music.
